Two Ghanaian legal practitioners, Ace Anan Ankomah and Nania Owusu-Ankomah Sackey, have been named in the 2026 edition of the Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Litigators guide, one of the most respected rankings in international dispute resolution.
The recognition marks the fourth consecutive year that both lawyers have featured in the prestigious guide, which celebrates litigators handling complex, high-stakes disputes involving governments, multinational corporations, and sectors ranging from energy and construction to finance and international commerce.
Both practitioners are based at Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah, one of Ghana’s leading law firms. Ankomah serves as Senior Partner and heads the firm’s disputes practice, overseeing all contentious matters including trials and international and domestic arbitrations. Sackey is a Partner at the firm.
Lawdragon’s profile of Ankomah highlights his central role in some of the most consequential cross-border disputes to have involved African legal representation. Chief among them was his work as lead attorney for NML Capital in its high-profile case against Argentina—a dispute that led to the attachment of an Argentine war vessel, proceedings before the International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea, and a ruling from Ghana’s Supreme Court. The case ultimately settled for more than $2.4 billion.
In arbitration, Ankomah has represented clients including Volta Aluminium Company and Kaiser, Western Telesystems, Deloitte, Fortiz, and Balkan Energy. His track record places him among a small cohort of African lawyers who regularly act on disputes that span multiple jurisdictions and involve billions of dollars in claims.
Sackey’s inclusion in the guide reflects her growing stature in high-value litigation and arbitration. She has represented global clients in the oil, mining, private equity, non-profit, and technology sectors, including Tullow, Epiroc, Stanbic Bank Ghana, and Abosso Goldfields. Her caseload spans disputes involving sovereign governments, shareholder conflicts, and breaches of contract.
Her appointment as Vice President of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA)—one of the world’s foremost arbitral institutions—further cements her reputation. She previously served as a member of the LCIA before her elevation to the vice presidency, a role that places her at the heart of global arbitration governance.
The honour comes at a time when broader questions about the rule of law and constitutional protections in Ghana remain at the forefront of public discourse. The recognition of Ankomah and Sackey on the world stage offers a counterpoint, demonstrating that Ghanaian legal talent is not only capable of holding its own internationally but is increasingly shaping the global practice of dispute resolution.
The Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Litigators, now in its fifth edition, selects its honourees through a process that combines nominations, independent research, and extensive vetting by clients and peers. The 2026 edition features leading litigators from jurisdictions around the world who have distinguished themselves in complex international disputes.
In a statement, Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah congratulated the two lawyers, saying the recognition “reflects their exceptional work across arbitration and disputes and their continued contribution to the legal profession both in Ghana and internationally.”
The firm’s dual presence in the Lawdragon guide underscores the depth of legal expertise emerging from Ghana’s private sector, particularly in areas where the intersection of mining, investment, and legal regulation continues to generate significant commercial and political activity.
