Youth Skills Investment Drives Economic Growth
Government has been urged to significantly increase investment in youth development to fuel Ghana’s economic growth.
Dr. Mohammed Saani Adams, Director at the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, made the call at the Impact and Strategy Forum 2025 in Accra.
He pointed out that Ghana, along with many nations on the continent, needs to do more to equip its young people with the skills necessary to compete globally. According to Dr. Adams, a skilled youth population is essential for productivity, innovation and industrial advancement.
“Strategic investment in youth skills development is essential to unlocking the full potential of our youthful population and positioning Ghana for sustainable economic transformation,” he stated.
The forum, organized by Timeless Women of Wonder (TWOW), gathered policymakers, development partners and industry leaders to promote empowerment, enterprise growth, and innovation.
A key feature of the event was the launch of Recraft Africa, an initiative focused on sustainability and the circular economy. Recraft Africa aims to create jobs by transforming waste into valuable resources and promoting recycling.
Dr. Adams emphasized a holistic approach to youth development, advocating for combining skills training with support for entrepreneurship, innovation, and expanded opportunities.
“Youth development must be approached holistically, combining skills training with entrepreneurship support, innovation and access to opportunities that enable young people to contribute meaningfully to national development,” he added.
Nyakan June, CEO and Founder of Timeless Women of Wonder, reiterated her organization’s commitment to empowering women and young people. “We are dedicated to providing practical interventions that foster entrepreneurship, innovation, and financial independence,” she said.
She further explained that the Impact and Strategy Forum is designed to connect policy makers with private sector opportunities and grassroots development initiatives, fostering inclusive growth.
