The University of Ghana (UG) debate team has secured a gold medal in the Open Debate Category at the 2025 Pan African Universities Debate Championships (PAUDC) held at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.
Competing against 107 teams from 56 institutions across 11 African countries, UG’s victory underscores the institution’s growing prominence in continental public speaking competitions.
The team’s success is a testament to their eloquence, critical thinking skills, and the University’s dedication to fostering leadership, analytical abilities, and effective communication among its students.
Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, the University Registrar, accompanied the team to South Africa, providing valuable guidance and mentorship throughout the championship. The UG Sports and Wellness Directorate also played a crucial role, offering supervision and support for their training and participation in both national and continental events.
This win adds another chapter to UG’s impressive history in Pan-African academic competitions, solidifying its reputation as a leading centre for intellectual discourse and debate on the continent.
