The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has lauded the Africa Arts Network (AAN) for its dedication to bolstering Ghana’s cultural and creative industries.
During a meeting with the AAN delegation in Accra, Madam Gomashie commended the group’s consistent passion for theatre productions, cultural programming, and innovative creative experiences. She highlighted the resilience and talent within Ghana’s creative sector, emphasizing its crucial role in nurturing national identity.
The Minister encouraged the AAN to formalize their proposals to facilitate smoother collaboration with the Ministry. While reaffirming the Ministry’s open-door policy towards creative initiatives, she stressed the importance of written documentation for effective tracking and decision-making.
“Once your ideas are written and submitted, it allows us to track, minute and respond properly. Official communication is very important for proposals, invitations, budget requests and partnership engagements,” she explained.
Madam Gomashie specifically urged the Network to submit detailed plans for a major theatre event slated for March 7 and 8, 2026, for the Ministry’s review. She assured the delegation of the Ministry’s recognition of their work and the potential of theatre to contribute significantly to national cultural development.
Addressing broader concerns within the sector, the Minister referenced the recently announced budgetary allocation for the creative arts, stating that disbursement modalities were steadily progressing. She appealed for patience from stakeholders as structures are established to ensure transparent and equitable support.
The Minister also encouraged the AAN to continue showcasing Ghanaian creativity and to embrace innovation to unlock new collaborative opportunities. She reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting the growth of the creative arts as a cornerstone of national culture and tourism.
Mr. Kofi Youngman, Leader of the AAN delegation, expressed gratitude to Madam Gomashie for accepting their invitation to a preview performance. He reaffirmed the Network’s commitment to building a vibrant and sustainable theatre ecosystem in Ghana.
Mr. Youngman outlined ambitious plans for large-scale productions, including a proposed “Black Star” theatre production at Independence Square, and emphasized their eagerness to collaborate with the Ministry to elevate Ghanaian theatre. The group also sought the Ministry’s guidance in promoting their initiatives on both national and international platforms, mentioning ongoing discussions with defence and diplomatic partners to expand cultural exchanges.
