Spurs Probe Yves Bissouma Nitrous Oxide Allegation

Tottenham are investigating footage that appears to show midfielder Yves Bissouma inhaling nitrous oxide, the club said on Tuesday. The incident has revived scrutiny over the Mali international’s conduct off the pitch.

The Sun published the video, alleging it captures the 29‑year‑old inhaling the substance widely known as laughing gas or NOS. The clip was posted on the tabloid’s digital platform early Wednesday.

“We are looking into the events and it will be dealt with as an internal matter,” a club spokesperson told BBC Sport. The statement indicated that the matter would be handled within the club’s disciplinary framework.

Bissouma, who joined Spurs for a reported £30 million from Brighton in 2022, was previously banned for one match after a similar incident in 2023. He later apologised, saying he displayed a “severe lack of judgement”.

Possession of nitrous oxide for recreational use has been a criminal offence in the United Kingdom since 2023 and can carry a sentence of up to two years in prison. The law applies irrespective of whether the substance is used for medical or illicit purposes.

The midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season and he has not featured since Thomas Frank took over as manager in June. Bissouma was omitted from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint‑Germain in August after persistent lateness, and he has struggled with ankle and knee injuries this campaign.

Ghanaian supporters, who closely follow Premier League developments, expressed disappointment on social media, noting that the incident could affect the reputation of African players abroad. No comment has been received from the Ghana Football Association to date.

Tottenham said the investigation remains ongoing and any disciplinary action will be announced in due course. The outcome could influence the midfielder’s future at the club as the season draws to a close.
