Star Oil on Monday launched Fuel Now, Pay Later, a credit‑based fuel purchase scheme that allows commercial drivers to buy fuel using their Ghanacard and individual credit scores.
The initiative, announced via a Facebook post, combines a driver’s verified Ghanacard with their credit rating to determine the amount of fuel that can be purchased on credit. Drivers who download the myCredit Score app, register and verify their Ghanacard can immediately start buying fuel at selected Star Oil outlets and settle the bill later through mobile‑money platforms.
“The programme is designed to ease cash‑flow pressures for drivers who depend on daily fuel purchases,” said Kwame Mensah, spokesperson for Star Oil. “By linking credit limits to verified credit scores, we provide a transparent and secure way for drivers to access fuel on credit and pay when they are able.”
The credit limit each driver receives is determined by their individual credit rating, which the app retrieves from Ghana’s growing personal credit‑scoring system. The myCredit Score app is available for download on both the App Store and Google Play.
The launch builds on the national push for individualized credit scores introduced last year by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aimed at expanding credit access for products and services based on verified creditworthiness.
Star Oil expects the scheme to roll out to additional stations in the coming weeks and urges other oil marketing companies to adopt similar credit‑enabled solutions, signalling a shift toward more finance‑inclusive services in Ghana’s transport sector.
