SportyTV Launches on DStv and GOtv, Bringing 24/7 Sports Coverage to African Households

A new 24-hour sports channel has arrived on DStv and GOtv across Africa, promising to broaden access to live sport for millions of households at a time when the FIFA World Cup 2026 is dominating screens across the continent. SportyTV, operated by the global consumer internet and media company Sporty Group, officially launched on June 10 and is now available on DStv channel 236 and GOtv channel 58 in Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya.

The channel’s arrival is particularly significant for subscribers on entry-level packages. For the first time, DStv Access and GOtv Value customers have access to a dedicated sports channel that carries live football from some of the world’s top leagues, including the English Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, and the EFL Championship. The lineup also features Copa Libertadores coverage, the Argentine league, Brazil’s Serie A, and dedicated club channels for Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Beyond football, SportyTV offers selected NBA programming, combat sports, and other international events. The channel complements the existing SuperSport portfolio rather than replacing it, giving subscribers a wider range of content at no additional cost to their current packages.

The timing is no accident. With the FIFA World Cup 2026 now underway in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, demand for live sports content has surged. SportyTV announced in April that it had secured pay-TV rights to all 104 World Cup matches, making it the first channel to offer complete tournament coverage on DStv’s most affordable bouquets.

David Mignot, Chief Executive Officer of CANAL+ Africa, described SportyTV as a valuable addition to the DStv Access and GOtv content offering across Africa. He said the channel expands the range of sporting events available to customers at an accessible price point and reflects the company’s commitment to making quality sports content available to audiences across the continent.

Sudeep Ramnani, founder and CEO of Sporty Group, said the company’s ambition has always been to provide African audiences with broad access to sports content and storytelling. Through the partnership with CANAL+, he said, that offering is now being extended to more households across the continent.

The channel’s programming extends well beyond live matches. SportyTV features daily news and magazine shows, in-depth analysis, exclusive interviews, and comprehensive pre-match and post-match programming. On-ground reporting teams have been deployed across all three World Cup host nations to bring viewers closer to the action.

For Ghanaian viewers, the launch arrives at a moment of heightened national interest in football. The Black Stars opened their World Cup campaign with a dramatic stoppage-time victory over Panama, and the prospect of affordable, comprehensive coverage of the tournament has resonated with fans who have long complained about the cost of accessing premium sports content.

The move also signals a broader shift in Africa’s broadcasting landscape. As competition for viewers intensifies, platforms are increasingly looking to offer more content at lower price points. SportyTV’s availability on entry-level bouquets represents a deliberate strategy to capture the vast segment of African consumers who want live sport but have been priced out of premium packages.

Elias Gallego, Vice President of Business Development, Marketing and Media at Sporty Group, said launching SportyTV on DStv and GOtv allows the company to extend its reach and bring a broader range of sports content to viewers across Africa. Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Director of Sport Content for English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, added that the channel complements existing SuperSport programming by offering subscribers a wider range of sporting events and supporting content.

As the World Cup progresses and domestic leagues prepare for new seasons, SportyTV’s presence on the continent’s most widely distributed pay-TV platforms is likely to reshape how millions of Africans consume live sport.
