Former UT Bank founder, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his humility and humanity, qualities he believes are uncommon among political leaders.
Mr. Amoabeng shared these sentiments during an interview on Channel One TV, recounting a long-standing friendship with the President that dates back to his days as Vice President.
He explained that their connection was initially fostered through First Lady Lordina Mahama, with whom he had an existing rapport. “We shared moments together — we had drinks, we ate, and we talked freely when he was Vice President,” he recalled.
The retired military officer noted that their interactions lessened as UT Bank grew and his professional demands increased around 2009-2010. However, he emphasized that President Mahama’s character remained consistent.
“He is down-to-earth, humane and extremely humble,” Mr. Amoabeng stated. He further added that the President’s ability to connect with people from all walks of life is a valuable trait for Ghana.
“Even today, he interacts with everyone, sometimes so freely that he seems unaware of the power he holds. That humility is a rare asset for this country,” he observed.
