President John Mahama has commended the Ghana Police Service (GPS) for its discipline and effective operations during the festive season, ensuring Ghanaians celebrated safely amidst increased travel, social activities, and security risks.
The President acknowledged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Police Management Board for strategically deploying personnel across highways, communities, and public places, which reassured citizens of a vigilant and responsive state.
President Mahama expressed encouragement over the swift and professional handling of incidents, with reports addressed promptly, suspects apprehended, and criminal activities disrupted before escalation.
The President urged the service to sustain this momentum, emphasizing that security is the foundation of national stability and development, and without safety, investment would hesitate, and social cohesion would weaken.
The IGP described the annual WASSA celebration as a moment for reflection, appreciation, and renewal, where officers could pause, take stock, and acknowledge their efforts, strengthening bonds of camaraderie and esprit de corps.
Mr. Yohuno reflected on his 301-day leadership, citing progress in making crime less attractive, thanks to the dedication and sacrifice of officers, and highlighted strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies and international partners.
