Police in Accra have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly attempting to sell an assault rifle at Sodom and Gomorrah in contravention of Ghana’s arms control laws.

Abdulai Ibrahim was apprehended on December 29, 2025, following police intelligence indicating his involvement in illegal firearms trade within the Greater Accra Region.

Investigators retrieved a CZ brand assault rifle which the suspect reportedly offered for sale at GH₵35,000. Police records show Ibrahim admitted transporting multiple pump-action guns to individuals in northern Ghana prior to this incident.

“The suspect disclosed his source as an arms dealer operating around the UTC area of Accra,” police said. Officers are pursuing leads to dismantle the entire supply chain.

Law enforcement authorities have secured the recovered weapon as evidence while continuing investigative operations. Ibrahim remains in custody assisting with ongoing probes into the illicit arms network.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating illegal firearms circulation, urging citizens with relevant information to contact regional police commands.
