Police dismantle warehouse theft ring, recover stolen fertilizers and food items
In a coordinated operation, the Tema Regional Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of orchestrating a series of warehouse robberies that targeted fertilizer and food storage facilities in the Greater Accra Region. The arrests, made on June 16, 2026, followed intelligence-led investigations into two distinct incidents involving the theft of thousands of bags of organic fertilizer and rice, valued at hundreds of thousands of cedis.
According to a police press release, the first incident occurred on May 25 at a fertilizer warehouse in Kpone, where a group of armed men assaulted a security guard and made off with 751 bags of 50-kilogramme organic fertilizer, amounting to GH¢431,825.00.
The second incident took place on June 14 at Mummy’s Recipe Warehouse in Tema Community One, where another group of armed robbers overpowered security personnel and stole approximately 2,000 bags of Aaba Rice and other food products.
The suspects identified are Akala Kudus, Shaibu Dauda, Abdul Rahman Moro, Giya Hudu, Razak Seidu, and Francis Ayinsabga. Police say that through sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering, they were able to trace the stolen goods to warehouses within the Tema enclave, leading to the identification of individuals connected to both crimes.
On June 16, police conducted coordinated operations that resulted in the arrest of the six suspects. During the operation, law enforcement recovered 600 bags of the stolen fertilizer from the Kpone warehouse and 717 bags of Aaba Rice from Mummy’s Recipe Warehouse. The recovered items have been secured as evidence while the suspects remain in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
Authorities emphasized that efforts continue to identify any additional accomplices, recover the remaining stolen items, and ensure that all persons involved face justice. The police also urged businesses and the public to invest in robust security measures and to promptly report suspicious activities to aid crime prevention and protect lives and property.
The successful operation underscores the importance of proactive policing and community cooperation in combating theft that undermines local businesses and threatens food security. As the region continues to grapple with such incidents, the swift response by law enforcement serves as a deterrent to criminal enterprises seeking to exploit vulnerabilities in commercial storage facilities.
