The Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako Marfo, has charged young lawyers and law students to prioritize legal fidelity and strive for excellence in their profession.
Mr. Nimako made the call during this year’s Annual General Conference of the Law Students’ Network (LSN) held at the University of Professional Studies over the weekend. He emphasized that a student’s mastery of the law should be the primary recognition they receive, surpassing any political affiliation.
“Lawyers must speak the law with authority, grounded in legal principles, and refrain from engaging in propaganda driven by political sentiments,” he stated.
Also addressing the conference, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North and former National Organiser of the NPP, Sammi Awuku, encouraged LSN members to remain dedicated to the Party’s cause. He expressed confidence that their efforts would be rewarded should the NPP return to power.
Mr. Awuku assured the students of the Party’s recognition, adding that once a flagbearer is elected after January 31, 2026, they would actively collaborate with the LSN on advocacy and research initiatives.
Former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, offered advice to aspiring lawyers, stressing the importance of respect for office staff. “Lawyers often gain invaluable insights from clerks and other support staff, sometimes even more than from textbooks,” he noted.
He further cautioned newly qualified lawyers to demonstrate respect towards judges and avoid any form of confrontation.
The event also featured contributions from Nana Akwasi Awuah, former Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (now GoldBod), and Maataa Opare, Founder and Non-Executive Chairperson of Hawkhurst & Dua Property Services and Managing Partner of Hawkhurst & Dua Associates.
