A New Patriotic Party communications team member has strongly criticized President John Mahama’s New Year address, calling it insincere and lacking concrete solutions for Ghanaians. Senyo Amekplenu expressed his disappointment during Friday’s JoyNews AM Show broadcast, stating the presidential message failed to inspire confidence among citizens.
“I wept as a young person in this country after listening to the President,” Amekplenu revealed during the morning news program. “There was no sincerity, no hope, and no assurance in his message – just empty claims about achievements.”
The NPP spokesperson particularly condemned what he termed “pseudologia fantastica” in the presidential address, accusing Mahama of selective truth-telling. “Governance cannot resort to fantasies and deceptions,” Amekplenu stated, using the clinical term for compulsive lying.
Amekplenu dismissed the President’s “reset” narrative as political deception: “This whole mantra of reset is a scam or fraud business. How can you claim to be resetting the country while continuing the same empty rhetoric we’ve heard for years?”
The communications specialist questioned the inclusiveness of Mahama’s message, asking: “If the President claims this reset is for all Ghanaians, where do ordinary citizens feature in this agenda?” He maintained the address failed to address pressing economic concerns facing most citizens.
