Multimedia Group's Christmas Egg Market Sells Out in Record Time

The car park of The Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) was a scene of vibrant activity this weekend as the maiden 2-day Christmas Egg Market proved a resounding success, selling thousands of crates of eggs and numerous live poultry in record time.

The event, a collaboration between MGL and the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association (GAPFA), aimed to connect farmers directly with consumers and alleviate the challenges of an egg glut while offering affordable prices during the busy Christmas season.

The initial plan for a steady two-day sale quickly transformed into a competitive rush for available stock. By midday on the first day, several poultry farms had completely sold out their initial supplies, necessitating urgent restocks from their warehouses.

Over 2,000 crates of eggs were sold within the first six hours of operation on day one, with sales continuing to climb throughout the two-day period. Live chickens were also in high demand, with some farmers quickly running out of birds.

Consumers benefited from significantly reduced prices, saving up to half the cost compared to traditional markets. “I came all the way from Kasoa because I heard the prices were unbeatable,” shared Auntie Beatrice, a loyal Joy FM listener. “The quality is fresh, and the savings are real. My only complaint is that the market is too short! We need this to be extended by at least three more days.”

Farmers expressed immense relief at the opportunity to move their perishable goods quickly and efficiently. “This is the fastest I have ever sold out a flock,” one vendor stated. “Usually, we spend weeks trying to move this volume to wholesalers. Here, the customers are ready, and the cash flow is instant. It’s a win for the local farmer.”

Felicia Antwi, a veterinary technician with GAPFA supporting KNS Farm, described the sales volume as “massive,” noting particularly brisk trading in the mornings. “Sales were particularly brisk in the morning, with buyers trooping in to stock up, although patronage slowed slightly in the afternoon,” she said to Myjoyonline.com.

The success of the market has prompted calls for it to become a regular event, with many suggesting it could help combat food inflation and provide a vital lifeline for Ghanaian households. Patrons and farmers alike have petitioned The Multimedia Group to extend the market’s duration.

David Max-Fugar, Head of Marketing and Sales at The Multimedia Group Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to improving food accessibility. “This is our way of giving back to our audience,” he stated. “We know the economy is tough, and if we can help a family have a better Christmas meal by providing affordable eggs, then our mission is accomplished.”

The Egg Market demonstrates The Multimedia Group’s dedication to community-focused initiatives and social impact, effectively mobilizing its audience to support local farmers and access affordable food.
