The Legal Green Association (LGA) unveiled a scholarship scheme for financially disadvantaged Ghana School of Law students on Sunday, 7 December 2025 at Maison Francais, University of Ghana.
General Secretary Emerentiana W. Alatinga said the programme aims to broaden access to legal education for needy scholars and thanked donors and partners for their support.
Founding Leader and Tema Oil Refinery CEO Edmond Kombat, Esq., praised the LGA’s leadership, recalling his own student days and urging transparency and accountability in the fund’s management.
“Transparency and accountability must underpin every disbursement,” Kombat stated.
Deputy CEO of Goldbod, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., welcomed the initiative, encouraging beneficiaries to pursue their ambitions with discipline and determination.
Technical Advisor to the GRA Commissioner‑General, Mrs Elsie Appau‑Klu, Esq., described education as a long‑term investment and called for responsible stewardship of the scholarship resources.
Past LGA leader Kabu Nartey acknowledged the current administration’s effort to formalise the scheme and expressed gratitude to senior lawyers including Edmond Kombat, Edudzi Tamekloe and Sammy Gyamfi for their backing.
Deputy Director‑General of TVET, Abdul Fatah Maigah Mahama, noted that many law students face financial hardship and said the scholarship would provide timely relief.
In the main address, Festus Matey traced LGA’s growth since its 2022 inception, highlighting advocacy for inclusion of professional law students in the Student Loan Trust Fund and the push for pupillage placements with the Attorney‑General’s Office, law firms and public‑sector legal departments.
Matey explained that the scholarship scheme is the centrepiece of LGA’s current initiatives, designed to expand access, offer financial support and strengthen mentorship for committed students.
Head of Politics Evans Mawunyo Tsikata concluded that the scheme aligns with LGA’s goal of preventing financial constraints from denying members legal education, and pledged continued collaboration with state agencies, law firms, the SRC and other partners to broaden professional opportunities.
