Kwakye Ofosu Defends Government's Financial Management

Politics

Government Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has defended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s spending record, stating that current expenditure levels demonstrate responsible fiscal management.

Responding to criticisms, particularly from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), regarding insufficient government spending amidst revenue challenges, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu argued that the claims misrepresent the government’s economic strategy.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 9, the Minister highlighted the NDC administration’s approach in comparison to its predecessor. He acknowledged that both governments faced revenue shortfalls, but maintained that the current government has prioritized restraint and accountability.

“He is operating within the limits he set for himself,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said, referring to the Finance Minister. He further contrasted this with the NPP’s past performance, alleging that their expenditure continued to escalate even when revenue declined.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that government spending is “ongoing but deliberately measured.” He pointed to the Finance Minister’s recent announcement of expenditure cuts as evidence of the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline in the face of lower-than-expected revenue.

He reiterated that the government is taking necessary steps to ensure responsible management of the nation’s finances, dismissing accusations of inadequate spending as unfounded.
