Police Arrest 13 in Kintampo Drug Bust, Seize Cannabis and Tramadol
Thirteen individuals have been arrested and a substantial amount of narcotics seized in a targeted police operation in the Kintampo Municipality. The swoop, conducted overnight, aimed at flushing out criminal elements from the area.
The Kintampo District Police Command initiated the operation at 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 18, focusing on the farming communities of Babator and Kawampe. According to police reports, officers encountered groups of young men and women engaged in the open smoking and sale of substances suspected to be cannabis.
Upon spotting the police, the individuals reportedly attempted to escape, but were pursued and apprehended. Those arrested include Issahaka Amadu, 25, a trader; Afia Sumaila, 32, also a trader; Yaw Johnson, 20, a trader; Dankwa David, 30, a trader; Abdul-Hakim Sumaila, 16, unemployed; Kofi Vandam, 24, a farmer; Yambon Cornelius, 25, a farmer; Jagri Seth, 22, a motor mechanic; Mubarick Manteiso, 36, a labourer; Issahaku Abdul-Basit, 39, a driver; and Hamza Wedrago, 24, a scrap dealer.
A thorough search of the areas yielded the following exhibits: 65 wraps of suspected cannabis, 49 pieces of dried leaves also suspected to be cannabis, compressed dried leaves concealed in polythene bags, 19 blisters of Tramadol tablets, 5 blisters of a substance marked “red”, 5 packets of Oris cigarettes, 3 packets of Royals, and 1 packet of Rothmans. Additionally, police seized 4 keypad mobile phones, 1 radio set, 4 pairs of scissors, 4 lighters, and a total of GH₵682.80 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the illicit drug trade.
“All seized exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes,” police stated, adding that the suspects are currently undergoing screening and further investigation. The Kintampo District Police Command has commended the operation team for their vigilance.
The Command has reiterated its commitment to raiding criminal hideouts and clamping down on narcotic activities within the municipality. Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing timely information to assist in maintaining community safety.
