High Court in Kumasi delivered a 74‑page judgment on Friday, November 28, 2025, confirming that both Akosua Serwaa Fosuh and Priscilla Ofori – popularly known as Odo Broni – were legally married to the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, aka Daddy Lumba.
The ruling, handed down by Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur, dismissed the suit filed by Akosua Serwaa, who had sought a declaration that she was the sole lawful wife and therefore the only person entitled to perform the musician’s widowhood rites.
Akosua Serwaa argued that her marriage to Daddy Lumba was conducted under the Ordinance Civil Marriage, which she claimed made her the exclusive surviving spouse.
Speaking to JoyNews The Law on Sunday, Iris Aggrey‑Orleans, partner at Beyuo Co., praised the judge’s meticulous approach, noting the “deliberate care” taken in drafting the extensive judgement.
“I believe she did this knowing fully well that this is a judgement that will be scrutinised over and over again,” Aggrey‑Orleans said. “She took her time to lay down principles we already know, but she explained them in a way that the general public can easily understand.”
The 74‑page document has surprised some observers for its length, but the legal analyst explained that the detailed reasoning was warranted given the intense public and legal scrutiny surrounding the high‑profile case.
“Honestly, I wasn’t expecting 74 pages, but given the scrutiny, it was necessary,” Aggrey‑Orleans added. “You may not necessarily agree with the judgement, but she explained her position properly and that is worth celebrating.”
The decision is expected to settle the competing claims over Daddy Lumba’s marital status and the associated cultural rites, while also highlighting the judiciary’s commitment to transparency in matters that attract widespread public interest.
