Police Arrest 132 Suspects Before Holidays
The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended 132 individuals and seized a number of items, including motorcycles, in a series of targeted swoops and motor operations across the Accra Metropolis.
Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Regional Public Relations Officer, disclosed this during a press conference in Accra on December 23. She stated, “The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a total of 132 suspects and retrieved various exhibits, including narcotic substances, suspected stolen items, and motorcycles, during a series of special swoop and motor operations conducted across several jurisdictions in the metropolis as part of sustained efforts to combat crime during this Christmas and beyond.”
One operation, conducted on Thursday, December 18, saw police personnel from the Kotobabi District, under the Nima Division, arrest four suspects near Merciful Hotel Annex at Alojo. “Details of this operation will be shared subsequently,” Superintendent Obeng added.
Further operations on Sunday, December 21, by the Railways District Command of the Accra Central Division, led to the arrest of 15 individuals at known criminal hotspots within the division.
A motor traffic operation carried out on Friday, December 19, around East Legon and within the Airport Division resulted in the seizure of 36 motorcycles. According to Superintendent Obeng, riders with minor offenses received warning letters, while others are being prepared for court.
Additional operations were conducted in other areas of the metropolis, with full details to be released later, as part of the police’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure Christmas season.
“All suspects are currently undergoing screening. Those found culpable will be prosecuted, while those not linked to any criminal activity will be released,” Superintendent Obeng clarified. The recovered exhibits will be sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for analysis as needed.
