The government is set to commence construction of the ‘Oxygen City’ housing project in Ho, the Volta regional capital, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. The project, spearheaded by the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) under the Ministry of Works and Housing, aims to address the growing housing deficit in the region.
Oxygen City is envisioned as a comprehensive residential and commercial hub, featuring a mix of apartments, townhouses, service plots, and commercial spaces. The development will also include recreational facilities such as a golf course and leisure areas, offering residents a holistic living experience.
The announcement of the project has ignited considerable discussion on social media, with many hailing it as one of the most significant housing initiatives in the Volta Region to date. Supporters believe Oxygen City will stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities.
However, alongside the praise, there are calls for the government to ensure the project’s successful completion. Concerns have been raised about previous housing projects that stalled and became “white elephants,” prompting citizens to urge diligent oversight. “We need to see this project through to the end. Too many good intentions have been left unfinished,” a resident commented online.
Specific requests have also been made regarding the types of housing available. Some residents are advocating for affordable apartment units accessible to public sector workers. Others suggest incorporating simpler, self-contained hall and chamber units, particularly near the Ho Airport at Takla Agbokofe, to cater to a wider range of income levels.
The project’s location at Takla Agbokofe is strategic, aiming to leverage the accessibility provided by the Ho Airport. Officials are yet to comment on the specific requests for affordable housing options, but the government has assured the public of its commitment to delivering a quality and impactful development.
