Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Professor J. S. Korantwi-Barimah, has outlined a vision for deepening bilateral ties, emphasizing trade, investment, and sectoral cooperation as pillars of a revitalized partnership.
Presenting his credentials to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo, the ambassador recalled the historic solidarity between Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah and Egypt’s Gamal Abdel Nasser, while stressing that modern relations must be anchored in economic collaboration and mutual prosperity.
He identified trade and investment, agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, tourism, education, digital innovation, infrastructure, and cultural exchange as key areas for joint action. The ambassador urged Egyptian businesses to explore opportunities in Ghana, citing its political stability, investor-friendly climate, and strategic access to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat, headquartered in Accra.
Addressing the Ghanaian community in Egypt, he commended their professionalism and adherence to local laws, encouraging them to serve as informal ambassadors of Ghana’s values. He also pledged to strengthen consular services and engage diaspora groups in development initiatives.
The ambassador’s vision aligns with Ghana’s broader foreign policy goal of leveraging diplomacy for economic transformation. Recent parliamentary ratification of bilateral air service agreements with Middle Eastern nations underscores the country’s commitment to expanding strategic partnerships across the region.
Furthermore, his focus on education echoes national efforts to rebuild institutional integrity and foster skilled human capital—critical for sustaining long-term growth and competitiveness in a globalized economy.
As Ghana navigates complex global dynamics, the Egypt partnership offers a pathway to diversify economic alliances, attract technology transfer, and create jobs. The ambassador’s mission signals a renewed commitment to turning historical friendship into tangible prosperity for both nations.
