Some Ghanaian media practitioners have recently participated in a SputnikPro journalism seminar, a specialised training programme designed to enhance collaboration across various media platforms.
The event, co-hosted by the Russian Embassy in Ghana and the Ghana-Russia Center for Commerce and Relations, provided a crucial platform for media professionals from both countries to exchange ideas and strengthen bilateral ties.
The seminar centred on the theme “Fostering Cross-Media Understanding and Collaboration in Journalism,” and highlighted the increasing importance of integrated storytelling in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.
Vasily Pushkov, Director of International Cooperation at Rossiya Segodnya, who led the session, emphasized that cross-border media partnerships enrich news content and offer audiences more diverse perspectives. “Stronger media-sector cooperation offers mutual benefits to both our nations,” he stated.
A representative delivering a statement on behalf of John Aggrey, CEO of the Ghana-Russia Center, noted the evolution of journalism beyond traditional mediums. “Modern newsrooms now function as unified teams, integrating print, broadcast, digital, and social platforms,” he explained. “The SputnikPro series is instrumental in bridging the gaps between these formats and fostering a more inclusive global journalism environment.”
Natalya Muzhennikova, Counsellor at the Russian Embassy in Ghana, underscored the significance of accurate reporting in shaping perceptions of Russia-Africa relations.
The session was marked by active participation from Ghanaian journalists, who posed questions regarding Russian journalistic practices and potential avenues for collaboration.
Sputnik, a global news agency covering political and economic affairs in over 30 languages, organized the SputnikPro programme, which was launched in 2018. It continues to offer modules facilitated by Sputnik managers and leading Russian experts, focusing on areas like multimedia production, social media strategy, and audience engagement.
Over 7,000 participants from more than 80 countries have already benefited from this training series.
The initiative will continue with a second phase scheduled for January 2026, where selected Ghanaian journalists will travel to Russia for an intensive media training programme led by Sputnik.
