Ghana Introduces Chatbot to Boost Startup Growth
A new digital tool, Gepbot, is poised to revolutionize how entrepreneurs in Ghana access and understand government policies, officials announced at the Ghana Digital and Innovation Week (GDIW) 2025.
The Ghana Entrepreneurship Policy Chatbot aims to tackle the long-standing difficulties faced by business owners, especially startups, in deciphering the country’s often complex regulatory landscape. Currently, vital policy information is scattered across numerous institutions and frequently presented in technical jargon, creating a barrier for many founders.
Gepbot offers a solution by providing entrepreneurs with quick, clear, and dependable answers to policy-related inquiries. This will empower them to make well-informed decisions, reducing the delays and confusion that can stifle business growth.
The chatbot is an initiative of the Digital Transformation for Inclusive Entrepreneurship in Ghana (DTEG) programme, which receives funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. It directly supports DTEG’s goals of enhancing digital skills, improving information access, and fostering inclusive economic growth and job creation.
A panel discussion at the launch, featuring representatives from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), and Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), highlighted the pressing need for such a tool. “Entrepreneurs often struggle not because they are unwilling to comply, but because they simply can’t find or understand the information they need,” explained a representative from the GEA.
The discussion addressed common misconceptions surrounding regulatory processes, offering practical clarity that attendees noted was often missing in traditional forums. Observers at the event emphasized that Gepbot’s on-demand guidance could significantly reduce bottlenecks for businesses.
Developed by mNotify in partnership with key players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and policy specialists, Gepbot was refined through extensive user testing. “We wanted to ensure the tool reflected the real-world experiences of entrepreneurs, not just theoretical policy assumptions,” a developer from mNotify stated.
Stakeholders believe Gepbot represents a significant step towards greater transparency and accessibility in public sector engagement with businesses – areas identified as crucial for Ghana’s entrepreneurial success. For mNotify, this project signifies a strategic move into AI-driven solutions for public service delivery and digital inclusion.
Developers assure users that Gepbot will be continuously updated with new information and insights from both public institutions and the entrepreneurs it serves.
