PRINCOF Announces Early Christmas Break for Colleges of Education

Education

Colleges of Education across the country will be closing for the Christmas break earlier than initially planned, effective Friday, December 12, 2024. The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) announced the revision on Wednesday, December 10.

The new date is eight days ahead of the previously scheduled December 20. According to PRINCOF, the adjustment is to allow for the completion of admissions for applicants awaiting their 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, and to give newly admitted students sufficient time to report to campus.

Principals have been directed to ensure a smooth closure and maintain essential services during the break. “In view of the above, all Principals are respectfully requested to take the necessary steps to close their institutions on the indicated date and ensure that appropriate internal arrangements are made for security, essential services, and ongoing administrative activities during the break,” the statement from PRINCOF read.

Academic activities are expected to resume on Monday, January 19, 2025. PRINCOF expressed optimism that the principals will cooperate to ensure a seamless start to the 2025/2026 academic year.

The Committee believes this temporary change will facilitate a more organized and efficient admissions process for the next academic year, benefiting both prospective students and the institutions themselves.
