Ghana’s Black Stars will engage in a friendly match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on December 16, 2025, as part of preparations for both nations’ upcoming tournaments.
The game is scheduled to take place in Gauteng, South Africa, and serves as a crucial warm-up for Bafana Bafana ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which kicks off on December 21 in Morocco. South Africa is in Group B with Egypt, Angola, and Zimbabwe.
For Ghana, the friendly presents an opportunity for head coach Otto Addo to evaluate his team in the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars unfortunately missed out on the 2025 AFCON, failing to qualify for the first time since 2004 after a six-match winless streak in the qualifiers.
Addo will be keen to use the match to experiment with different formations and assess the readiness of players as Ghana prepares to face a challenging Group L in the Mundial, comprising England, Croatia, and Panama. Details regarding the exact venue for the December 16th encounter are yet to be announced.
While the friendly is a preparation game, it is expected to draw significant interest from Ghanaian football fans eager to see the team rebuild and prepare for the World Cup. “This match is vital for us to gauge where we are and identify areas for improvement,” a source close to the team reportedly stated. Further updates on squad selection and match logistics will be communicated in due course.
