Politics

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received a warm welcome in Wa, the Upper West Regional capital, today as he commenced a tour of the region and the northern territories.

Scores of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters, clad in the party’s signature blue, red, and white, greeted Dr. Bawumia on motorbikes from the outskirts of Wa, escorting him to Wechiaw in the Wa West Constituency for his first campaign engagement.

At Wechiaw, prominent NPP figures from the region, including former government appointees, parliamentary candidates, and dedicated grassroots members, were present to meet him. The atmosphere was charged with energy, featuring vibrant traditional drumming, singing, and dancing.

Dr. Bawumia addressed the enthusiastic gathering of NPP delegates and supporters, outlining his vision for the party and the country.

The tour continued to Wa Central, where a similarly large and supportive crowd gathered to express their backing for his potential re-election as the NPP’s Flagbearer for the 2028 polls.

Dr. Bawumia’s nationwide engagement with party delegates and members is expected to continue with planned visits to the Upper East and North East Regions in the coming days. He has already completed tours of the Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Western North, Western, Oti, Volta, Central, and Eastern Regions.

This extensive outreach is taking place ahead of the NPP’s January 31st election, where a Flagbearer will be chosen to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
