Atta Akyea Says Ken Agyapong Unfit for Presidency

Former Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has voiced concerns over the temperament of aspiring presidential candidate, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, suggesting it could be detrimental to effective governance.

Mr. Atta Akyea, while stating he harbors no personal animosity towards Mr. Agyapong, expressed serious reservations about his suitability for the highest office, citing a potentially volatile nature that could even extend to interactions with cabinet ministers.

“I have no issues with Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, not even a single one. However, leadership consists of many factors. I am concerned about the man’s temperament. I fear he could even assault a cabinet minister; he has a bad temperament. There is nothing he shows patience with, and he does not know how to handle matters behind closed doors,” he said in an interview on UTV.

The former minister emphasized that successful leadership demands more than just business acumen or popularity. He argued that a president needs to possess qualities like resilience and the ability to manage pressure effectively.

“The temperament of a president should include shock absorbers, someone who can absorb pressure, not someone who always believes he has an issue with others,” Atta Akyea stated.

He acknowledged Mr. Agyapong’s skills as a businessman but questioned whether these could be successfully integrated with the necessary political competence, intellectual capacity, and vision, especially considering his age.

“I believe we can support him as a businessman, but when we consider competence, temperament, intellectual prowess and vision, the question remains: at his age, how do you tame him?” he asked.

Turning to recent internal party elections, Mr. Atta Akyea dismissed claims of rigging in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“There was no election conducted by the NPP that sought to rig the process in favour of Bawumia; no one had such a plan. Every candidate had his agents at the various polling centres,” he asserted.
