Accra – Investigations into claims of a kidnapping and robbery made by an American woman in Accra have stalled due to her lack of cooperation, the Ghana Police Service has revealed.
Arianna Naomi Mackey, who recorded a viral video alleging she was abducted and robbed by individuals posing as police officers, has left Ghana and is refusing to assist with inquiries, according to a statement from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The CID stated that Ms. Mackey and two companions checked out of their hotel in Accra on December 5, 2025, and subsequently departed the country the same day, confirmed by airport records. When contacted by investigators, she acknowledged leaving Ghana but was unable to provide details about the alleged perpetrators.
“She indicated to Police that she was out of the country and she could not get the names of the alleged officers nor the number plate of the vehicle they were using,” the statement read.
The situation has been further complicated by Ms. Mackey deleting the original viral video and blocking attempts by investigators to contact her via WhatsApp. “Efforts by the investigators to contact her through WhatsApp calls and messages have proved unsuccessful, as she has declined to respond and later blocked the team,” the CID added.
Adding to the difficulties, a companion who was reportedly with Ms. Mackey during the alleged incident has also declined to participate in the investigation, stating they “does not want to be involved.”
Despite these challenges, the Police Service says it is actively pursuing diplomatic channels to secure Ms. Mackey’s cooperation. “We are taking these allegations seriously and are determined to establish the facts,” the statement affirmed.
The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer for the CID.
