Angela List, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nguvu Mining Limited, has been elected First Vice President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, ascending to the second-highest position in the umbrella body that represents companies involved in the exploration, production and processing of mineral resources across the country.
Her election took place at the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting in Accra, marking a significant moment both for the organisation and for women’s representation in an industry long dominated by men. Madam List, who previously served as Second Vice President, was elevated to the first vice presidency in recognition of her extensive contributions to Ghana’s mining sector over the past quarter-century.
“Under no circumstances will I shirk this responsibility,” she said following her election, pledging to draw on her 25 years of industry experience to help maximise the benefits of Ghana’s mineral resources.
Madam List oversees a sprawling portfolio of mining operations across West Africa. Under the Nguvu Mining umbrella, she manages Adamus Resources Limited, Northern Ashanti Mining Company Limited, Segala Mining Company, Samira Hill Gold Mine and Poura Resources Limited. Her interests extend beyond Ghana’s borders into Mali, where she controls SEMICO-SA and MIKO-SA, both active in that country’s mining sector.
Recognised as the Most Outstanding Female Mining Entrepreneur in Africa, Madam List has accumulated a string of national and international honours. In 2025, she received the Global Power Female Award at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, an event attended by heads of state and first ladies from around the world. At home, she was named Female CEO of the Year in 2023 and received the Asantehene Award from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for her contributions to Ghana’s mining industry.
Her academic credentials include an MSc and an MBA from the University of Manchester, alongside a BSc in Administration from the University of Ghana. Before founding Nguvu Mining, she served as Executive Director of BCM Ghana Limited and BCM International Limited, both mining services companies that expanded significantly under her leadership.
In her new role, Madam List will support the Chamber’s President in shaping policy, promoting technical standards and advocating for sustainable mining practices in Ghana. She has also been vocal about the need for greater gender diversity in the sector.
“After all, what men can do, women can do better. Indeed, the time has come to give practical meaning to this saying as far as the mining industry is concerned,” she remarked.
Her election comes at a time when Ghana’s mining industry faces mounting pressure to balance revenue generation with environmental stewardship and community development. The Chamber of Mines has been at the centre of recent debates over proposed royalty increases and the Growth and Sustainability Levy, with industry leaders warning that excessive taxation could drive investment to neighbouring countries.
