The Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has announced it is withdrawing its support for the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), citing a lack of inclusion in key decision-making processes.
Mr. Takyie Addo, Head of Communications for the Spare Parts Dealers Association, voiced the group’s strong dissatisfaction with GUTA’s recent actions, specifically the inauguration of a new President without consulting them.
“Although GUTA is regarded as our mother association, major decisions are increasingly being taken without our knowledge or participation,” Mr. Addo told the media. “We are one of the largest business groups in Ghana, and this oversight is concerning.”
He declared the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association would no longer participate in GUTA activities or decisions. “In light of this ongoing situation, we would henceforth distance ourselves from any activities or decisions undertaken by GUTA, highlighting our need for recognition and inclusion in the decision-making processes that directly affect us.”
Mr. Addo believes this decision will impact GUTA’s effectiveness. “This will have ramifications for GUTA’s operations, particularly their ability to form effective and representative decisions,” he stated. “The recent trend of GUTA executives making choices without engaging us is detrimental.”
The association has indicated it will not reconsider its position until GUTA formally engages with its leadership to address their concerns.
