Police Rescue Kidnap Victim in Yendi, Arrest Three Suspects

Local News

Police in Ghana’s Northern Region rescued a kidnapping victim and arrested three suspects following a targeted intelligence‑led operation in Wapuli, Yendi District.

The operation was confirmed by Northern Regional Police Commander DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, who said officers acted swiftly after the case was reported to the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Directorate on 2 December 2025. “We deployed a five‑member intelligence team to monitor the suspects and secure the victim’s release,” Lavoe stated.

According to the internal situation report, the kidnappers demanded GH₵100,000 from the victim’s family. The intelligence team freed the victim on 5 December and later engaged the suspects in a firefight at about 2:30 a.m. on 6 December.

The armed group, believed to be four men, fled the hideout, leaving behind a motorbike (registration M‑25‑NR) and a Samsung phone recovered for investigation.

Tracking the fugitives to Bokpaba along the Bimbilla‑Yendi stretch later that morning, police arrested three men – Haruna Seidu (31), Amidu Bande (30) and Osman Bande (40) – who are now detained at Yendi Police Station. They are expected to be transferred to the Regional Headquarters in Tamale on 7 December.

Officers also recovered two additional motorbikes – one registered M‑25‑GB 1026 and an unregistered bike – and seized GH₵70,000 believed to be part of the ransom paid by the family.

One suspect remains at large, reportedly wounded during the earlier exchange. Police describe him as armed and dangerous and have intensified efforts to locate him.

The Northern Regional Police Command has urged the public to provide any information that could assist in apprehending the remaining suspect and promised further updates as investigations continue.
