The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has issued a directive to all businesses operating in Ghana, emphasizing the need for full compliance with environmental laws.
According to the EPA, companies must adhere to the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124) and the Environmental Protection (Environmental Assessment) Regulations, 2025 (L.I. 2504) to avoid legal consequences.
The directive outlines three key areas of compliance: operating without a valid environmental permit, operating with an expired permit, and breaching the conditions of a permit.
Failure to comply will result in sanctions, including fines, business closure, or legal prosecution, depending on the nature of the violation.
The EPA has intensified its enforcement, monitoring, and inspection activities to ensure businesses adhere to environmental laws and protect Ghana’s natural resources and public health.
Regulated entities are urged to take immediate action to update their environmental compliance status by visiting the nearest EPA office.
Sectors affected by the compliance exercise include manufacturing, energy, tourism, construction, agriculture, health, and more.
The EPA has emphasized that all businesses within these sectors must comply with environmental standards to avoid penalties.
