Govt to Speed Up Road Projects in 2026

Road construction activities across the country will see a significant boost in 2026, according to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza. This move is part of the government’s efforts to fulfil President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to improving Ghana’s road infrastructure.

Mr Agbodza explained that the President has consistently emphasised the importance of modernising the country’s road network and has backed this with concrete budgetary allocations.

"The President has committed to Ghanaians to improving roads across the country. You have heard him whenever he goes to meet stakeholders, talking about the networks to be improved," he said during an interview on Citi FM.

The Minister revealed that the Ministry has already received the necessary resources to execute these projects, placing responsibility on his office to ensure the planned works are delivered effectively.

"So, the President has committed resources for these roads to be improved. He made provisions in the budget for the Finance Minister to read. My job is to make sure that the vision of the President comes to pass," Mr Agbodza stated.

He further disclosed that most road projects for the year have already been awarded, with the Ministry now focusing on supervising contractors and ensuring quality standards.

"Fortunately, the core of the projects has now been awarded, and it is time for us to now focus on the contractors and the consultants to ensure that they do good work for us to get value for money, considering the investments we are putting into road construction," he added.

Mr Agbodza assured that monitoring will be intensified to guarantee the delivery of durable roads.
