Education

Two Hallmark International School pupils, Maame Abena Nhyira Antwiwaa Yamoah‑Antwi and Nana Adwoa Aseda Ampomaah Yamoah‑Antwi, helped Ghana secure second‑runner‑up at the ENJOYA 2025 Global Robotics Finals in Wuzhen, China.

The duo forms part of AI GIRLS, the school’s robotics and artificial‑intelligence team that first rose to prominence at the ENJOYA African Open held at the Accra Digital Centre from 26‑27 September 2025. Competing in the Cyber City Challenge Upper Elementary category, the girls clinched second place, earning a spot on Ghana’s national delegation.

“The achievement reflects the dedication of our young innovators and the quality of hands‑on training we provide,” said Dr. Kwame Mensah, Director of The MakersPlace, the national organiser of ENJOYA Ghana.

At the global finals in early December, more than a thousand students from 61 countries vied across multiple categories at the Light of the Internet Expo Centre. Ghana finished second‑runner‑up in the Robot Game, marking one of the country’s strongest performances to date.

Beyond the podium, AI GIRLS received the Best Team Spirit Award for demonstrating unity, discipline and perseverance throughout the rigorous competition rounds.

ENJOYA officials noted that the girls consistently supported one another and encouraged fellow competitors, embodying the collaborative values the programme seeks to nurture among youth innovators.

Building on the momentum, organisers have confirmed that Accra will host the ENJOYA 2026 African Open in September 2026, positioning Ghana as a continental hub for robotics and AI education.

According to STEM analyst Ama Badu, the results signal Ghana’s growing investment in science and technology, showing what can be achieved when learners access modern tools and international exposure.

Both Maame Abena and Nana Adwoa now aspire to careers in technology and innovation, fields where African girls remain under‑represented, and they say the experience has reshaped their future ambitions.

Their story illustrates that global innovation belongs to anyone willing to learn, collaborate and persevere, regardless of borders.
