President John Mahama has directed the Ministry of Finance to release approximately $78 million to JustMoh Construction, resolving outstanding payments owed to the company since 2024.
This crucial disbursement is intended to facilitate the completion of the Takoradi–Agona-Nkwanta road, a vital section of the Trans-West African Highway connecting Ghana with Côte d’Ivoire.
The move aims to address delays in the project and ensure the timely provision of this key infrastructure, which is expected to boost trade and regional integration. Sources close to the Ministry of Finance indicated that the funds have been earmarked and the disbursement process initiated.
According to information gathered by GhSpeaks.com, the road’s completion has faced challenges due to the protracted payment issues. “We’ve been working with government to resolve this and are grateful for the President’s intervention,” a source within JustMoh Construction reportedly stated. The source, who wished to remain anonymous, further added that the company is mobilizing resources to get back on site immediately.
The Takoradi–Agona-Nkwanta stretch is particularly significant as it is a major transit route for goods moving between Ghana and its western neighbour, Côte d’Ivoire. Its poor condition has been a source of concern for commuters and businesses alike. Analysts believe finishing the road will provide significant economic benefits to both countries.
Government officials have emphasized the importance of this highway in promoting economic cooperation within the West African sub-region. Further updates on the completion timeline are expected in the coming weeks.
