The Government of Ghana has commenced the 99th cycle of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash grant payments nationwide, starting Monday, December 22, 2025.
Announcing the disbursement at a press briefing, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, revealed that a total of GH¢139,329,463.37 has been released for this payment cycle.
According to Dr. Lartey, approximately 350,580 households, representing an estimated 1.5 million Ghanaians, will benefit from the grants. “This is a testament to the government’s commitment to alleviating poverty and supporting the most vulnerable in our society,” she stated.
The LEAP programme, she explained, remains a flagship social protection initiative and a crucial component of the government’s broader Reset Agenda. The agenda, Dr. Lartey emphasized, aims at significantly improving the living standards of citizens living in extreme poverty.
The bi-monthly cash grants are tiered, varying from GH¢320 to GH¢530 based on the size of the beneficiary household.
Dr. Lartey highlighted the importance of the timely release of funds, particularly during the festive season, stating, “We recognize the challenges families face during this time and aim to provide them with the means to meet their basic needs.”
Furthermore, the Minister announced a substantial allocation of GH¢1.1 billion to the LEAP programme by the Ministry of Finance – the highest since the programme’s inception. The government also intends to expand the reach of LEAP to cover 400,000 households in 2026.
Dr. Lartey called for collaborative support from traditional authorities, faith-based organizations, civil society groups, and development partners to ensure the long-term sustainability of the LEAP programme.
She also extended her appreciation to the staff of the Ministry, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDA) level, Community Focal Persons, payment service providers, development partners, and Members of Parliament for their dedicated contribution to the programme’s success.
