The Multimedia Group's X'mas Egg Market Sells Out, Returns Tomorrow

A festive initiative to sell affordable eggs has been met with overwhelming public response, resulting in a complete sell-out on its first day.

The ‘X’mas Egg Market’, a collaboration between the Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) and the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association, opened this morning at the Joy FM Car Park in Kokomlemle.

Consumers flocked to the market to purchase eggs directly from poultry farmers at prices ranging from GH₵40 for smaller sizes to GH₵45-50 for larger ones. However, the high demand led to the entire stock being exhausted hours before the scheduled closing time.

The initiative aims to provide relief to households grappling with the rising cost of Christmas expenses while simultaneously supporting local poultry farmers who are facing challenges with surplus produce, declining market prices, and increasing production costs.

By eliminating the involvement of middlemen, the market seeks to ensure fairer returns for farmers and more affordable prices for consumers.

“This is a timely intervention supporting both farmers and families,” said Afua Browne, a buyer at the market earlier today.

Isaac Manful, a poultry farmer participating in the market, expressed optimism, stating, “The direct sales will ease the financial pressure on producers and significantly improve our end-of-year sales.”

Organisers have confirmed that fresh supplies will be available when the market resumes sales tomorrow, Saturday, December 20, at the same location. They are advising the public to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
