Nalerigu Curfew Hours and Security Under Review

Politics

The Ministry of the Interior has adjusted curfew hours for the Nalerigu Township and surrounding areas in the North East Region, effective Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

According to a statement posted on the Ministry’s Facebook page, the curfew will now be in effect from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am daily. This revision aims to address ongoing security concerns in the area.

The government is appealing for calm and restraint from residents, including chiefs, elders, and the youth. It has urged the use of dialogue and peaceful means to resolve disputes following recent unrest.

The new curfew hours represent a reduction in the previous restrictions, offering residents a slightly extended period of flexibility while maintaining security during the night. The National Security Council has been actively assessing the situation, leading to these adjustments.

Beyond the revised curfew, a number of additional security measures have been implemented to curb violence and ensure public safety. These include a complete ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, and any offensive weapons. Authorities warn that anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.

Furthermore, the following are now prohibited within the township: motorbike movement, the wearing of smocks – potentially linked to certain groups – and the sale of fuel in containers, a measure to prevent fuel-related incidents. Unlawful assembly is also banned.

The Ministry of the Interior has reiterated the importance of the role of chiefs, elders, and opinion leaders in fostering peace and cooperation within the community.
