Accra Streets Get Fresh Look with Kerb and Median Repainting
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is intensifying efforts to repaint kerbs and road medians on major roads in the capital, a move aimed at boosting visibility and enhancing road safety.
Work is currently progressing along the Avenor Junction to Kwame Nkrumah Interchange corridor. The repainting effort has already been completed around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange itself, as well as in sections of the Central Business District and other key intersections as part of the initial phase.
Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey emphasized the importance of the initiative, describing it as a vital road safety measure. “This is a practical intervention to make road edges and median ends more visible to motorists,” he stated, speaking to the media.
He explained that faded markings create hazards, particularly at night and during rainfall, contributing to road accidents. The repainting, he believes, will significantly improve driving conditions throughout Accra.
To minimize disruption to traffic flow and ensure the safety of workers, the project is being carried out in phases. “Additional locations will be covered as the exercise progresses,” Mayor Allotey added.
The AMA is urging motorists to exercise caution when approaching work zones, adhere to traffic directives, and demonstrate patience for the safety of everyone on the road.
