One person has died after being attacked by bees in the Kpandai District following a National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign engagement on Sunday, December 14.
The incident occurred shortly after the NDC concluded its campaign activities in the area, sending supporters into a panic, according to Mr Robert, the party’s Kpandai Constituency Secretary.
The deceased, identified as a traditional leader from a community within the district, was reportedly riding a motorbike when the swarm descended upon him. He attempted to flee the bees by dismounting, but tragically lost his life amidst the ensuing chaos.
The exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death are still under investigation. While some residents are speculating about spiritual causes, labelling it a curse, authorities have yet to confirm these claims.
“The situation unfolded so quickly, it was just panic everywhere,” Mr Robert stated. “We are deeply saddened by this loss and our condolences go to the family.”
Security agencies are expected to launch a full investigation to determine the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate incident.
This comes at a sensitive time, with Kpandai gearing up for a parliamentary election rerun on Tuesday, December 30. The Electoral Commission ordered the rerun after the initial 2024 results were annulled due to collation irregularities. The incident is likely to heighten tensions in the already politically charged environment.
Authorities are urging calm and caution as investigations continue. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
