Mothercare School Pupils Donate 8000 to Medical Trust Fund

Pupils of Mothercare School in Accra have demonstrated heartwarming generosity by donating GH¢8,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), responding to the fund’s call for support to retool specialist hospitals nationwide.

The children, accompanied by school management, presented the donation at the GMTF’s offices on Friday, December 12, 2025. The funds were accumulated throughout the year from weekly offerings during their Wednesday morning devotion.

“What we are doing is from the little coins that learners offer during our Wednesday school worship. We put it all together to reach out to the vulnerable each year,” explained Madam Peace Abasah Addo, the Principal of Mothercare School. “Today, we’re here to donate our widow’s mite, praying it will give someone life.”

Madam Addo emphasized the school’s dedication to instilling a spirit of giving in its pupils. “We have a passion for reaching out to the vulnerable. We looked around for a deserving cause this December and decided to support the Ghana Medical Trust Fund,” she stated.

Receiving the donation, GMTF Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku lauded the children’s act of kindness as more than just a financial contribution. “This is an act of love in action, compassion, hope, and kindness,” Ms. Darko-Opoku said. “These children wanted to support a Ghanaian they may never meet.”

She added that the gesture highlights the importance of character building. “This builds essential character traits like empathy, responsibility and compassion, fostering self-esteem and community connection. It shows the children are learning to focus on others and develop kindness,” she noted.

Ms. Darko-Opoku expressed her gratitude and called on other schools and institutions to follow Mothercare’s example. “I am overwhelmed. Such little drops of water will one day make a mighty ocean. I urge others to emulate this and donate to this worthy cause.”

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, an initiative under President John Mahama, provides vital financial assistance to Ghanaians facing serious, costly illnesses like cancer, kidney failure, and heart disease, which are not fully covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). The Fund aims to bridge healthcare gaps and alleviate the financial burden of treatment on families.
