The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) is advocating for increased investment collaboration with Suriname, identifying potential growth areas in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.

This call was made by Selase Akpo-Agbovi, Regional Manager of GIPC for the Volta and Oti Regions, during a panel discussion commemorating Suriname’s 50th Independence Anniversary in Ho. He reiterated the GIPC’s dedication to assisting communities in discovering promising investment opportunities.

Mr. Akpo-Agbovi detailed the GIPC’s responsibilities within the region and updated attendees on the Investment Opportunity Mapping Project. The project aims to comprehensively document sectors with significant investment potential.

He also highlighted the GIPC’s regular organization of international webinars, noting they are specifically designed to explore new business prospects and clarify regulatory guidelines. “GIPC routinely organises international webinars aimed at exploring emerging business opportunities and clarifying regulatory frameworks,” he stated.

Following the event, the GIPC pledged to facilitate dedicated investment discussions with both Suriname and Barbados, aiming to bolster economic ties, Mr. Akpo-Agbovi assured.

Suriname’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Fidelia Grand-Galon, urged Ghanaian producers to leverage the rising demand for Ghanaian products in Suriname. She emphasized that establishing a direct shipping route between the two countries would be a key factor in boosting trade. “The establishment of a direct shipping line between the two nations would significantly enhance trade,” she explained.

Echoing the sentiment of strengthened relations, Barbados’ High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, spoke of the longstanding historical and cultural connections between her country and Africa, specifically Ghana.

High Commissioner Bynoe-Sutherland emphasized the significance of community-based tourism, robust public health systems, and the development of Special Economic Zones. She indicated Barbados’ willingness to investigate opportunities for technical cooperation in these areas. “Barbados is ready to explore technical cooperation in these areas,” she said.

The commemorative event was themed “Building Stronger Ties Through Culture and Tourism: Suriname and Volta Region.”
