A heavy rainstorm brought the final funeral rites of former Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah, to a standstill on Saturday, December 13, in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
The unexpected downpour descended upon the funeral grounds, forcing mourners, family, and dignitaries to scramble for shelter as planned ceremonies were suspended. Canopies proved insufficient against the intensity of the rain, disrupting the scheduled rituals.
Dr. Boamah passed away in May following a helicopter crash. The funeral was intended to be a culmination of mourning and a final tribute to his life and service.
“It was quite sudden,” said a family member who wished to remain anonymous. “One moment we were observing the traditions, and the next, we were all running for cover.”
Organisers are working to reschedule the suspended portions of the funeral rites. The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of the rainy season in Ghana and the challenges faced when holding large outdoor events.
Further updates will be provided as they become available.
