Lionel Messi inspired Inter Miami to claim its first MLS Cup on Saturday, defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3‑1 in a historic night for the club.

The Argentine delivered two assists, first to Rodrigo De Paul and later to rising talent Tadeo Allende, sealing a 3‑1 victory that also earned him the MLS Cup MVP award.

Messi’s dazzling form throughout the playoffs capped a remarkable season; he captured the 2025 Golden Boot with 29 goals and added 19 assists, totaling 48 goal contributions across all competitions.

Last year, in his debut full MLS campaign, Messi netted 20 goals and provided 10 assists in just 19 matches, helping Inter Miami secure the Supporters’ Shield and a new points record.

“Winning the MLS Cup is a dream realised for the club and its supporters,” said Inter Miami head coach Gerardo Martino. “Lionel’s leadership on the pitch has been decisive, and his vision created the moments that decided the final.”

Ghanaian football enthusiasts shared the excitement on social media, with analyst Kofi Mensah noting, “Messi’s success raises the profile of football in the Americas and inspires young Ghanaian players who aspire to play abroad.”

The triumph marks the culmination of a three‑year journey since Messi joined Inter Miami in 2023, reinforcing the club’s growing stature on the North American stage.

As the celebrations continue, the victory is expected to boost the club’s merchandise sales and attract more Ghanaian fans to MLS broadcasts, further strengthening football ties between Ghana and the United States.
