We have a lot of hunger to make a name for ourselves — Brandon Thomas Asante
Despite a 2-1 loss to Croatia in their final group match, the Ghana Black Stars remain determined to make their mark at the 2026 World Cup, with forward Brandon Thomas-Asante emphasizing the squad’s unwavering ambition and hunger to build a lasting legacy.
Speaking after the Group L finale at Lincoln Financial Field, Thomas-Asante acknowledged the disappointment of the result but stressed that the team’s progress to the Round of 32 demonstrates their resilience and collective goal of making the nation proud.
“Yes, I think coming into the World Cup, there’s a lot of ambition, a lot of hopes and what we want to do as a collective on an individual basis,” he said. “And I think it all encompasses within each other that we want to be successful.”
The Black Stars finished third in Group L with four points, securing their place in the knockout stage after a win over Panama, a draw with England, and the narrow loss to Croatia. They now face Group K winners Colombia, who went undefeated in their group with seven points.
Thomas-Asante highlighted the belief within the camp, stating, “We’re glad that when we look around the dressing room, we see a lot of talent, a lot of ability and a lot of hunger to go and to make a name for ourselves as a nation and to keep that legacy going.”
His sentiments echo head coach Chris Hughton’s philosophy that qualification is merely the beginning, and the true World Championship begins now. The team is focused on giving their best in every match to make Ghana proud, embodying the spirit of perseverance that has defined their journey so far.
As they prepare to face Colombia in Kansas City on July 4, the Black Stars carry with them the hopes of a nation eager to see them succeed on the world stage, driven not by individual accolades but by a shared desire to etch their name in football history.
