A two‑year‑old girl was killed in a traffic accident on Friday, December 5, 2025, after a Toyota Hilux struck her outside her home in Degede, Bibiani‑Anhwiaso‑Bekwai.
The child, identified as Elliana Abena Mensah Beyesel, was standing near the front of a parked vehicle when the driver attempted to move off. She was rushed by residents to Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have detained the driver, 40‑year‑old Kwame Wisdom Hlovor, who is cooperating with investigators. According to the Western North Regional Correspondent Augustine Boah, the pickup bore registration GR 7390‑25 and had been parked briefly in front of two houses after coming from the Bibiani Mines Old Administration Office.
“He had parked the vehicle in front of two houses and, while attempting to move off, knocked down two‑year‑old Elliana Abena Mensah Beyesel, who was standing close to the front of the vehicle,” Boah reported.
The police impounded the Toyota Hilux for mechanical inspection and have taken the toddler’s body to the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy. Officers said the investigation will determine whether any traffic violations contributed to the fatal collision.
This tragic incident underscores the vulnerability of children in residential areas and the need for drivers to exercise extreme caution, especially when maneuvering vehicles near homes.
