Sunyani East NPP Hails Miracles Aboagye Appointment as Communications Director

Politics

The New Patriotic Party’s Sunyani East constituency has publicly congratulated Dennis Miracle Aboagye on his appointment as Director of Communications at the office of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Abubakari Yakubu, the Sunyani East Communications Officer of the NPP, described Aboagye as “one of our finest” and an “institution of inspiration and dedication to hard work and results-oriented” leadership. The endorsement, issued on Thursday, signals early consolidation within the party’s communication structures as it prepares for what it expects to be a fiercely contested electoral cycle.

Aboagye’s appointment places him at the centre of the NPP’s messaging strategy heading into 2028. The communications directorate at the flagbearer’s office will be responsible for shaping public narratives, coordinating regional outreach, and countering opposition messaging in what both major parties anticipate will be a closely fought election.

Yakubu expressed confidence that Aboagye would collaborate effectively with the next National Communications Director of the party to “secure a decisive victory for the NPP in the Election 2028.” He called for a robust communication directorate capable of implementing a comprehensive strategy aligned with the party’s electoral ambitions.

The congratulatory message also revealed Yakubu’s own political aspirations. He disclosed that he is contesting for the position of Bono Regional Director of Communication within the party, a move he framed as part of a broader effort to build a strong, coordinated communication team from the grassroots to the national level.

The appointment comes at a critical juncture for the NPP. After losing the 2024 presidential election, the party has been working to rebuild its internal structures and present a unified front ahead of 2028. Communications appointments at the flagbearer level are among the earliest and most visible signals of how a campaign intends to operate, and Aboagye’s selection suggests the Bawumia camp is prioritising media savvy and message discipline.

For the Sunyani East constituency, the public endorsement serves a dual purpose. It signals loyalty to the national leadership while positioning local figures like Yakubu as part of the broader communications ecosystem the party is trying to construct. In intra-party politics, such public gestures of support are rarely accidental.

The NPP’s communication strategy for 2028 will need to navigate a complex landscape. The party must articulate a credible alternative vision while defending its record in government, all under the scrutiny of a media environment that has grown more fragmented and faster-moving since the last election cycle. Whether Aboagye can meet that challenge remains to be seen, but the early endorsements suggest he has at least secured the confidence of his party’s base.
