7th Wave FC Celebrate Division Two Middle League Glory With Sponsors GLICO

7th Wave Football Club have capped a memorable 2025/26 campaign by presenting their Greater Accra Division Two Middle League trophy to sponsors GLICO Life Insurance Ghana, a gesture that underscores the growing relationship between grassroots football and corporate patronage in the capital.

The club sealed their Middle League triumph last week with a tense 3-2 penalty shootout victory over True Life FC after a goalless draw in regulation time. On Wednesday, players and coaching staff visited GLICO’s offices to hand over the silverware, a moment the club’s assistant coach, Nana Amankwah, described as the culmination of a demanding season.

“It’s been a long season and we are very happy to have accomplished what we have,” Amankwah said. “It’s not been the easiest task in the world but 7th Wave FC have shown that we are a very determined side, a side that doesn’t give up and a side that would always try to get to the top of football.”

The coach credited GLICO’s backing as a decisive factor in the club’s success. “GLICO coming on board was an extra plus we thought we needed and it has given these two wonderful trophies,” he said.

Andrew Achampong-Kyei, Managing Director of GLICO, expressed delight at the return on the company’s investment in the team. “It’s excellent to see them win these trophies at the end of the season,” he said. “You want to support and it’s always great to see that your support yields great results. And for 7th Wave to come back with these two trophies, it’s amazing and we say congratulations.”

The partnership reflects a broader trend of corporate bodies stepping in to support lower-division clubs in Ghana, where funding remains one of the most persistent barriers to development. For 7th Wave, the backing of a major insurance firm has provided not just financial stability but also a motivational edge that helped carry the squad through a gruelling campaign.

Having won their zone in the Division Two league before progressing to claim the overall Middle League title, 7th Wave now turn their attention to the Division One League next season. The promotion represents a significant step up in quality and competition, and the club will need to strengthen their squad if they harbour realistic ambitions of eventually reaching the Ghana Premier League.

The season’s success also offers a template for how corporate sponsorship can transform the fortunes of smaller clubs. In a football ecosystem where many lower-division sides struggle with basic logistics, the stability provided by a committed sponsor can be the difference between mediocrity and promotion.

For now, 7th Wave FC and their sponsors are content to savour a job well done—but the real test awaits when Division One football kicks off later this year.
