Fire Destroys Shop in Kukurantumi, Leaving Residents in Shock

A fierce fire ripped through a commercial shop on Kukurantumi‑Banana Street on December 3, 2025, prompting a swift Ghana National Fire Service response that extinguished the blaze within an hour.

The GNFS logged a distress call at 10:59 p.m., and an emergency team led by Assistant Divisional Officer I Somuah raced to the scene. Upon arrival, the shop was engulfed in thick, black smoke and towering flames, threatening adjacent premises.

Firefighters battled the inferno under challenging conditions, using high‑pressure hoses and ladder trucks to prevent the fire from leaping to neighbouring buildings. Within sixty minutes, the team had fully contained and doused the flames.

“We arrived within minutes and focused on protecting the surrounding structures,” ADO I Somuah, Ghana National Fire Service, said.

The blaze devastated the shop’s inventory, destroying electronics, furniture and a variety of commercial goods. Authorities praised the rapid GNFS response for averting a larger disaster in the bustling commercial district.

“We are grateful for the firefighters’ quick action; otherwise the damage could have been far worse,” a nearby shopkeeper, who asked to remain anonymous, explained.

No injuries or fatalities were reported. The GNFS has opened an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire, and officials have urged merchants to review fire safety measures.
