Interior Ministry Denies Assassination Attempt, OSP Claim

Politics

Interior Ministry says there is no record of any assassination attempt on Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, refuting claims made by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on December six.

The ministry released a press statement on Monday, December eight, after being alerted to allegations that the prosecutor ‘has survived two assassination attempts while discharging his duties to the Republic.’

The allegations were voiced by Samuel Appiah Darko, OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, who told Newsfile that he was handcuffed and beaten by seventeen police personnel.

Interior Minister Abdul-Aziz Zongo announced a full‑scale investigation into both the alleged attempts and the claim of police brutality, stressing that any such actions could undermine anti‑corruption efforts.

Preliminary findings disclosed that initial contacts with Mr Kissi Agyebeng indicate the alleged attempts, if they occurred, happened before this year, and that no report of threats exists in any police station or state security agency.

‘We have found no record or report of threats against the Special Prosecutor’s life in any of our security channels,’ the minister said, adding that ‘crime does not expire’ and that the investigation will be thorough.

The ministry pledged to keep the public informed of the investigation’s outcome and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property so Ghanaians can conduct lawful affairs without fear.

The story remains under close watch as the OSP awaits the ministry’s report, and opposition parties have called for an independent inquiry to ensure transparency.
